In April 2006, the legendary wild pitch maestro, DJ Pierre (DJP Records, Chicago) played a guest spot at STANK, the former weekly NYC party hosted by House of Stank (Christy Love and W. Jeremy). Minds met. Energies flowed. Beats soared. Soon after, the trio began co-hosting a monthly party at STANK, “Afro Acid: The Chicago Sessions,” based on Pierre’s brainchild, “Afro Acid.” House legends Harrison Crump, Cajmere (a.k.a. Green Velvet), Ron Carroll, Glenn Underground and Mark Grant all stopped by to drop some beats.
Afro Acid is the combination of Acid, Electro, Deep House, Underground House, elements of Rock, etc. Basically, anything goes. It’s about the music and the vibe created. It’s about eliminating boundaries and gimmicks and bringing back the true elements of what makes people feel good. The smiley “Afro Acid” man has become the face of Afro Acid and it has been featured in magazines worldwide representing this movement.In October 2007, DJ Pierre took the Afro Acid concept to the next level by launching the label, AFRO ACID DIGITAL, to showcase the “Afro Acid” concept. 'There is no prejudice when it comes to musical style. It is a venue for new and upcoming Producers as well as veterans who desire a home where musical expression is free and open,' says Pierre.
